Iran's Revolutionary Guards said on Friday they struck the LPG tanker NV Sunshine south of the Strait of Hormuz, claiming it was transiting an illegal route.
NV Sunshine, owned by South Korean firm NatWit and flagged in Seychelles, was en route from Singapore to the Persian Gulf when the projectile allegedly detonated near its fuel tanks.
The incident follows a UKMTO report of a projectile strike 13 nautical miles off the UAE's Al Jazeera Al Hamra, which identified the Panama‑flagged crude tanker GEM NO.2 instead.
Iran has tightened its blockade of the strait since the February escalation, insisting vessels must obtain permission to use its preferred routes; some ships now risk the southern path.
U.S. officials say they are monitoring the situation and may deploy additional warships to escort commercial traffic, while the U.N. Security Council is expected to debate a resolution on maritime security.
For the crew aboard NV Sunshine, the blast left one injured; a spokesperson for NatWit said the vessel's emergency systems were activated and all personnel were accounted for.
