Pulkit Mani, the stand‑up comic behind the Instagram handle "hunnywhoisfunny", announced on September 19 that his shows in Noida, Lucknow and Kanpur were cancelled, citing "unforeseen circumstances" and "repeated threats" from activists.
The decision follows an earlier appearance at the Congress’ Chhatron Ki Goonj event in Indore, where Mani joined MP Rahul Gandhi to lampoon BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, drawing laughter from a large audience.
BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan slammed the duo, calling the jokes "foul‑mouthed" and "third‑rate", and demanded an explanation from the Congress party, asserting that no decent person would find such antics amusing.
Education Minister Pralhad Joshi also condemned the incident, accusing the Congress of moral bankruptcy and weaponising a student interaction to mock the late mother of PM Modi, adding that the party had "stooped to an absolute nadir of empathy".
With the cancellations, Mani’s next performance remains uncertain, and the Congress faces mounting pressure to address the backlash from political opponents and the public.
