Pappu Yadav, the Purnia MP, slammed the Bihar police for failing to file a chargesheet after a viral clip showed two 16‑year‑old students harassed on 19 September while returning from coaching classes in Jamui. The video, posted on social media, triggered an immediate FIR under the POCSO Act.
Yadav accused the police of prioritising money from liquor and sand mafias over victims, stating, "They don’t care about filing FIRs in these cases." He added that the officers have been "busy collecting money from the mafias" while ignoring crime reports.
The police have identified seven suspects, arrested three, and are conducting raids to locate the remaining four. A Special Investigation Team, led by SDPO Deepti Monali, has been set up to probe the incident.
Earlier, Yadav had sparked controversy by claiming that women in politics face harassment, a statement he said was based on stories from several women. BJP legislators demanded an apology, and a complaint seeking a formal FIR was filed against him.
Yadav said he would personally visit Jamui to meet the families of the survivors and demanded that a chargesheet be filed within three months. He also called for harsher penalties for those who escape accountability, stressing that the police must act decisively against offenders.
