The decision arrived amid a broader controversy over the SIR of electoral rolls, which has sparked disputes among EC members. Earlier this year, Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi filed written objections on multiple orders, though the EC has denied labeling these as formal dissent. The postponement drew attention because it coincided with the heated debate over SIR‑related decisions.
The cancelled programmes were expected to host up to 1,000 young participants each, requiring extensive logistical coordination. These outreach events are a cornerstone of the ELC 2.0 initiative, designed to engage a generation that historically votes in lower numbers.
