Harmanpreet Kaur announced her resignation as India’s women’s skipper on Tuesday, following a triumphant 2025 Women’s World Cup campaign and a gold medal at the Asian Games.
Yuvraj Singh posted a snapshot of Kaur holding the 2025 trophy, calling her a “pillar of Indian cricket.” He praised her for carrying the “responsibility, the pressure, the highs and the lows” with pride.
Shafali Verma, who debuted under Kaur’s guidance, wrote that the captain had been her “anchor” since day one. She thanked Harman for sticking by her through every match, on and off the field.
Shikhar Dhawan echoed the sentiment, noting that leadership is about the impact left behind. He wished Kaur “the best for everything ahead” and highlighted her role in shaping the team.
During a BCCI review in Guwahati, Kaur said she was “ready to play for the love of the game again.” The meeting, chaired by Devajit Saikia, included vice‑captain Smriti Mandhana and coach Amol Muzumdar.
Kaur’s departure leaves a legacy of India’s first Women’s World Cup title and a recent Asian Games gold. The board will now look to appoint a new skipper ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, ensuring the team stays competitive on the global stage.
