Sudden, sudden death. British novelist Jeffrey Archer, the 86‑year‑old former MP who had been convicted of perjury in 1994, collapsed in his London flat on Monday, October 6, 2026.
Archer told the Times LitFest in 2021 that India's book market has a unique speed—an entrepreneurial buyer would purchase a copy abroad, fly back, and print it within three days, a process he could not control.
He praised R.K. Narayan as a storyteller who deserved a Nobel Prize, reflecting his deep respect for Indian literary giants and explaining why his books often hit Indian shelves before the rest of the world.
HarperCollins noted that Archer's works have sold over 300 million copies worldwide, appeared in 114 countries, and garnered more than 850,000 five‑star reviews, a testament to his global reach.
The publisher also announced that his final book, "Adam & Eve", will be released on October 6, 2026, the same day he passed, marking a bittersweet farewell while his wife Mary celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier that year.
