The second edition of Exercise Tarang Shakti, slated for September 26‑October 12 at Jodhpur Air Force Station, will gather seven foreign contingents and more than 60 IAF aircraft, showcasing India’s growing air power. Among the foreign forces, the United States will bring its F‑35 stealth fighter. Other participants include France, Germany, Australia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates. All aircraft will engage in high‑intensity joint tactical manoeuvres.
Vice Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit said, "This is the first time the F‑35 will fly with us, and the exercise will allow us to evaluate its performance in Indian skies." He added that operational security concerns will limit detailed discussion after the drills. The F‑35, which previously appeared at Aero India 2025, had been delayed in Trivandrum.
India is also developing its own fifth‑generation fighter, the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), with the IAF providing technical support. Dixit highlighted plans for a sixth‑generation platform and the IAF’s commitment to indigenous capability.
The exercise aims to test interoperability between the U.S. and Indian forces, focusing on air‑space coordination and joint operational tactics. Successful drills could lead to a formal joint operations framework and expanded procurement of U.S. aircraft.
A 28‑year‑old IAF pilot, who will fly the Su‑30 MKI, said the training will sharpen his skills for future missions. He hopes the experience will foster closer ties between Indian and U.S. airmen.
