Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant stood before high commissioners and ambassadors at the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium on October 29 to launch 'The Future of Africa.' It was not just a book release. It signaled a hard pivot toward African trade corridors. The summit, running through October 31, also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the BRICS-ASEAN Chamber of Commerce, the BRICS-ASEAN Independent Commission for Trade & Economy, and the Vibrant Goa Foundation.
Sawant leaned on hard numbers to justify the hype. Goa’s Gross State Domestic Product crossed ₹1.12 lakh crore in 2024-25. That growth came from infrastructure spend on airports, roads, and water supply. The state government is pushing the Goa Startup Policy 2025 to keep the momentum. They want to build a local ecosystem that doesn't just survive but competes globally.
The agenda went beyond paper launches. The state unveiled the 'Panaji Roadmap to Net Zero' and the 'Viksit Goa Vibrant Goa Report.' Sawant explicitly tied these local moves to national priorities. He pointed to the National Semiconductor Mission and Startup India as the backbone for Goa’s next phase. The goal is clear: make the state a node in India’s push for space tech, defense, and electronics.
The vision is aggressive. Sawant proposed a 'developed Goa' by 2037, a decade ahead of the national Viksit Bharat 2047 target. He pitched the state as a global hub for the blue economy, green energy, and sustainable tourism. The invitation to investors is blunt: partner with Goa or watch it move forward without you.
The three-day event continues with networking sessions and industry panels. The real test comes after the cameras leave. Will the BRICS-ASEAN MoU translate into tangible trade flows? Or will it join the shelf of other well-intentioned summits? The market will decide in the coming quarters.
