The collapse happened at Minto Bridge on the Outer Circle of Connaught Place, Delhi, as an auto‑rickshaw and a scooter were passing through.
Both vehicles were trapped under an eight‑metre pole that crashed onto the road, leaving a child inside the auto‑rickshaw and the scooter rider with bruises and lacerations.
No deaths were reported, but the child suffered a fractured arm and the rider sustained a head injury that required stitches.
A Delhi Police officer on the scene said the collapse is under investigation and that early indications point to corrosion as a possible factor.
Commuters described the scene as chaotic, with traffic snarled for over an hour. Police have ordered a temporary shutdown of the road and will conduct a safety audit of all traffic poles in Connaught Place.
