Punjab Police arrested gangster Karamveer Deo at Delhi airport on 14 September 2024 after he was deported from Canada.
Deo, a close associate of notorious Punjab gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was seized on a flight returning from Toronto. The arrest follows a broader operation that has brought more than a dozen gangsters home from the United States, Dubai, Malaysia and Moldova, according to AAP Punjab media in‑charge Baltej Pannu.
Pannu said the Mann administration has upgraded the Punjab Police with advanced technology and equipment, enabling the force to track and detain criminals even in countries lacking extradition agreements.
Earlier this month, police thwarted a planned attack on a blood‑donation camp in Ludhiana after receiving prior intelligence, illustrating the new capabilities.
Deo will be transferred to Punjab’s maximum‑security jail, where he will face trial on charges of drug trafficking and conspiracy. The government announced it will continue to pursue gangsters abroad.
