Tripura Police has formally registered a First Information Report against a Delhi-based influencer, Director General of Police GS Rao confirmed on Thursday. The action follows the viral spread of a video allegedly capturing a teenager from the state enduring racial slurs and harassment. Rao stated he received the clip around 4 pm on Wednesday, prompting immediate contact with the Special Commissioner of Police handling the North Eastern Region unit in Delhi.
The incident is not a fresh occurrence. Preliminary investigations suggest the footage was actually recorded in Ahmedabad approximately six weeks ago, though it only gained traction recently on social media. The identity of the uploader has been established, and the man seen in the video has been identified on a prima facie basis. Rao emphasized that Delhi Police is cooperating fully, with a Tripura team arriving in the capital on Thursday evening to push the case forward.
The reaction from political and public spheres has been swift and sharp. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, who intervened in the matter, labeled the influencer's behavior "evil." The DGP assured reporters that legal action would be taken against all individuals involved in the incident, citing relevant sections of the law. The focus now shifts to the joint investigation teams working to secure statements and digital evidence from the suspects.
