Dhule police recovered the bodies of Shyam Hari Patil and Sapna Patil from the Tapi River in the Savalde area of Dhule district.
The couple, originally from Amalner taluka in Jalgaon district, had married a few months ago and were found with their legs tied together by an iron chain secured with a padlock.
A police officer said the recovery occurred on a routine river patrol and that the chain and padlock were intact, indicating a possible foul play.
The officer added that investigators are looking into all angles, including the possibility of a suicide or a murder, and have begun forensic work at the scene.
