The agitation that had rattled S M Joshi Bridge in Pune for ten days collapsed last night as the Maharashtra government announced a new inquiry panel headed by IAS officer Tukaram Mundhe.
The students had been demanding the removal of MPSC chairman Vivek Bhimanwar, citing alleged paper leaks and a culture of unfairness in the recruitment process.
In the meeting, Minister Shivendra Raje Bhosale confirmed that Bhimanwar had taken leave until the inquiry concludes and that the committee would address the aspirants’ broader demands for reforms.
The panel will comprise ex‑judge Dilip Bhosale as chairman, IPS officer Laxmi Gautam, ex‑IAS Ganesh Patil and retired judge P D Naik, alongside Mundhe as secretary.
Beyond probing leaks, the committee’s mandate includes reviewing the recruitment of 70,000 posts over three years, expanding Group C seats, and conducting background checks on MPSC officials.
With the protest over, the next step will be the committee’s investigative work and a possible removal of Bhimanwar pending its findings, a move the students and their families are now watching closely.
