DCP TR Pegu told NDTV that the raid on Thursday morning was part of the ongoing investigation into case No. 25/2026, registered under Sections 117(2) and 304(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused, Boro and Das, had been remanded in police custody for two days before the operation.
The men, leading investigators to a Khanapara location, reportedly attacked the constables escorting them and tried to abscond. Police opened fire on their legs to stop the escape, striking the pair with bullet wounds.
Both men were immediately shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. Doctors confirmed the injuries are not life‑threatening and their condition is stable.
Police are now probing the alleged chain‑snatching incidents and tracing other gang members who may have been involved. The next phase will see fresh arrests if the investigations uncover additional suspects.
