VFS Global has been steadily expanding its network across India, now operating 561 centres in 20 cities. The Guwahati launch extends that reach into the Northeast, a region long underserved by visa processing hubs.
The facility sits at ISBT Khanapara, a key junction that links the city to major railways and highways. Its proximity to the airport means travelers can drop off forms without a long drive.
Applicants will find the centre handles visas for Austria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Malta, Morocco, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Malta’s D‑visa service is a first for the area, offering a streamlined option for tourism and study.
The inauguration was led by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who said the centre marks a step toward stronger regional connectivity. Tourism Minister Ajanta Neog and Transport Minister Charan Boro joined him, while VFS COO Yummi Talwar highlighted the company’s commitment to technology‑led service. Representatives from Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Italy and France were also present.
Local entrepreneur Ramesh Kumar, who runs a small import‑export firm in Guwahati, said the new centre will cut his travel paperwork from weeks to days. He expects more regional students to apply for overseas studies without the hassle of traveling to Delhi.
VFS Global will monitor usage patterns over the next quarter and may open additional points in nearby cities if demand rises. The company’s CEO has hinted at a broader push into the Northeast, aligning with Assam’s development plans.
