FSSAI has launched prosecution against Surya Food & Agro, Dodla Dairy and UEIR Organic Foods after finding cattle‑feed bran in Priyagold biscuits, substandard milk and pesticide‑laden raisins.
Surya Food & Agro’s plant, flagged by a consumer complaint, revealed gunny bags of cattle‑feed bran—marked for animal consumption—used as a fibre source in biscuits. The regulator cited glaring hygiene lapses: raw‑material storage, pest control, personnel cleanliness and premises maintenance. Earlier, the agency had suspended the company’s licence, and now it seeks criminal sanctions.
Dodla Dairy’s full‑cream milk sample fell short of the statutory fat content and contained detergent residues. After the company appealed, a referral laboratory confirmed the sample’s unsafe status, prompting the regulator to sanction prosecution for unsafe and substandard food.
UEIR Organic Foods faced a separate breach when pesticide residues surfaced in yellow raisins sold under its brand. The findings breached FSSAI’s food‑safety norms and triggered the legal action.
The FSSAI’s decision, announced on a social‑media post this Saturday, will see the three firms summoned to court in early June. Meanwhile, the authority urges consumers to steer clear of Priyagold biscuits, Dodla Dairy milk and UEIR raisins, pending the judicial review.
