Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj has issued a call to the entire Guru Khalsa Panth to convene prayers on Oct 28, urging congregations to gather in gurdwaras across India and abroad.
The appeal follows the murder of activist Parvinder Singh Jhota, who was gunned down in Mansa while campaigning against Punjab’s escalating drug crisis.
Gargajj warned that the drug menace is devouring the state’s youth like termites, insisting that if the government fails to dismantle pharmaceutical supply chains and synthetic drug networks, the consequences could be catastrophic.
He called on all sections of society to extend maximum support to Jhota’s family in their quest for justice, and urged a complete social boycott of drug dealers.
The Jathedar also reminded that Sikh Gurus forbid intoxicants, teaching followers to live a truthful, pure life, and that addicts can recover through determination and reconnecting with Gurbani.
The prayer rally is set to galvanise community solidarity and pressure authorities to act decisively, with officials expected to outline new measures in the coming weeks.
