India rejected the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s resolution on Jammu and Kashmir in a stern statement issued Monday, labeling the references as malicious and orchestrated by Pakistan. The resolution was adopted by the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Baghdad on October 17‑18, 2023.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the OIC had no locus standi to comment on matters internal to India, stressing that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of the country. It also highlighted the region’s economic boom since the abrogation of Article 370, citing new infrastructure, tourism and connectivity projects.
India contrasted this growth with the violence in Pakistani‑held Kashmir, where Islamabad has unleashed “repression and brutality” on civilian protesters, killing scores of them, including women and children. The ministry called these human rights violations “grave” and noted that no media blackout could conceal them.
In Srinagar, 48‑year‑old shopkeeper Rafiq Ahmed said the new roads and tourism influx have boosted his livelihood, but he remains wary of the political tensions. India now urges the OIC to retract the resolution within 48 hours and calls on Pakistan to end its support for cross‑border terrorism, hinting that further diplomatic pressure may follow if the OIC does not comply.
