S Jaishankar spoke in front of UN Resident Coordinator Stefan Priesner at the Bharat Mandapam event marking the 75th anniversary of the Chinmaya Mission on Sunday, demanding the UN act as a leader rather than a spectator.
He blasted the use of terrorism as a tool of statecraft, citing the ongoing war in Ukraine and the West Asian conflict, and warned that war anywhere threatens peace everywhere.
The minister urged a reformed multilateralism that includes large parts of the world in decision‑making, insisting that India champions dialogue and diplomacy as the sole solution.
He framed the remarks as part of UN Day celebrations, calling for the organisation to improve its functioning and address its shortcomings in crisis response.
The statement comes as the UN prepares for a General Assembly session where member states are expected to debate reforms to the Security Council and crisis‑management mechanisms.
