JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha announced the six‑year ban on Saturday, citing repeated violations of party directives and Singh’s opposition to the party’s candidate in the Patna Graduates’ constituency.
Singh, who has served Mokama since 2010, said in a press statement that the party’s reliance on Nitish Kumar’s legacy has left it vulnerable, claiming it has no future once he is gone.
He declared that he would form his own party and remain in his constituency, adding that he had no intention of seeking a ticket from any other party.
Kushwaha also warned that the expulsion would affect the JD(U)’s performance in at least ten seats, noting the party’s current struggle to secure a majority in the upcoming state polls.
The party has sent a letter to the Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly seeking disqualification of Singh under the Tenth Schedule, while Singh’s wife Neelam Devi has faced the same ban.
With the Bihar elections scheduled for 2025, observers expect the split to divide votes in key constituencies, potentially reshaping the state’s political landscape.
