Shaheen Afridi took his 150th ODI wicket against England in the fourth match of the tri‑series at Gaddafi Stadium, claiming the milestone in 80 games.
From the very first over he dismissed England opener Tom Banton, sending the ball high and sealing the wicket that would mark his 150th triumph. The moment was electric, and Babar Azam, the captain, quickly joined the celebration with a dismissal of Joe Root.
That makes Afridi the second‑fastest Pakistani bowler overall and the fastest Pakistani fast bowler, beating the likes of Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar who needed 91 matches. On the world stage he sits alongside Mitchell Starc and Sandeep Lamichhane, both juggling 150 wickets in fewer than 80 games.
Babar Azam said he was proud of Afridi’s achievement, noting that the young pacer’s pace and precision had been on full display since the start of the tournament. Pakistan had already edged Sri Lanka by 37 runs in their opening match, and this win keeps their title hopes alive.
The next leg of the tri‑series sees Pakistan face Sri Lanka at Rawalpindi, a chance to cement their lead and chase a series victory.
