BJP leaders staged nationwide protests on Sunday after Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge used the phrase 'Modi ka baap bhi jayega' during a Patna rally.
The remark was made in response to an audience member’s comment that the Prime Minister would not go anywhere. Kharge’s words, seen as a direct insult to the late father of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sparked outrage across the country.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called the comment "deeply distressing" and urged an apology. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi criticized both Kharge and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, questioning the party’s decorum.
In Bihar, BJP cadres marched through Patna, set an effigy of Kharge on fire, and demanded his resignation. Similar rallies in Jammu, Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Ranchi, and Kolkata involved burning posters and chanting slogans.
Congress officials defended Kharge, citing past insults to Sonia Gandhi and his own father, and claimed BJP had not shown outrage for similar remarks before.
BJP has called for Kharge’s resignation and an official apology, and the party is preparing a coordinated march in major hubs to pressure Congress leadership.
