The Supreme Court, in a hearing on Monday, addressed petitions challenging CEC Gyanesh Kumar's unilateral authority over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The bench clarified that it had never ordered any changes to Form 6, the voter‑enrolment document, and demanded the Election Commission explain who made the alterations.
Chief Justice noted that the court will scrutinise the immunity granted to Kumar, emphasizing that the ECI must act within statutory limits.
In a statement, the bench warned it retains the power to annul any orders issued by the Election Commission pending the outcome of the petitions.
Local voter Rahul Sharma, whose name appears on the roll, said he fears the SIR process might affect his registration and that many citizens share his uncertainty.
The Court has set a 15‑day deadline to issue notices to the ECI and CEC, after which it will decide on potential annulment of SIR orders.
