Digvijaya Singh, 79, released a 5‑minute clip on X this week in which he denounced the RSS and VHP as “distorting Sanatan Dharma” and “dividing the country along religious lines”.
In the clip, Singh also blasted the VHP’s handling of funds raised for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, alleging that the money was siphoned into BJP election coffers and used to build “massive buildings for the BJP and RSS”.
Responding sharply, Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Vishwas Sarang called for a “strict legal action” against Singh for “repeatedly insulting Hindus, saints and Sanatan Dharma”, and BJP MLA Ram Kadam threatened to label Singh a “saffron terrorist”.
The BJP’s move follows a long‑standing pattern of confronting senior Congress leaders over anti‑Hindu rhetoric; the party has previously filed legal complaints against politicians who have questioned the sanctity of the Ram Janmabhoomi site.
The controversy arrives as Singh plans a “Sanatan Swabhiman Yatra” from Ujjain to Ayodhya, a foot march aimed at rallying opposition to what he calls “religious exploitation”. The next day, the BJP’s legal team is expected to file a formal complaint in the Delhi High Court, setting the stage for a courtroom showdown.
