BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad slammed Delhi protests as a "banana republic" attack, announcing a police crackdown that saw 1,000 detained on Oct. 10, 2026.
The detentions included CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, AISA president Neha Bora, and former chief ministers Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee, Pinarayi Vijayan and Manik Sarkar.
Prasad cited the BJP‑led NDA’s by‑poll victories in Assam, West Bengal and Puducherry as proof that parliamentary democracy prevails over street unrest.
Rahul Gandhi, who was in Chennai that week, had earlier called the President's stance on alleged vote‑theft "insulting" and the Congress released a memorandum demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
The BJP will now submit a motion in the Lok Sabha to remove the CEC, and Parliament will vote on the Special Intensive Revision of the voter rolls.
