Hundreds of youths and several politicians converged on Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Saturday to protest the alleged voter‑roll tampering of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Delhi police erected a fortress around the site, detaining protestors and preventing the march from turning into a hostage situation.
At a press conference at the BJP headquarters, Patra slammed Rahul Gandhi as a "nalayak" leader and accused him of spreading anarchy in cahoots with foreign powers.
Patra said the demonstration had been orchestrated to incite violence and that democracy had triumphed over mob rule.
The protest has drawn scrutiny from the Election Commission, which is investigating the allegations against Gyanesh Kumar.
Police will maintain a presence around Jantar Mantar until the protest concludes and will coordinate with the Election Commission to ensure orderly proceedings.
