Phool Singh and Rehan Singh checked into a modest Andheri East hotel on Oct. 14 and stayed in room 201 for five days, leaving the day before the attack in Juhu. They used auto‑rickshaws to scout the area and tested a pistol in the room, which misfired and was concealed. Police later discovered that the weapon was being tested when the men left. The hotel staff only became aware of the incident when officers arrived on Oct. 20.
Earlier this week, the Kota Police in Rajasthan arrested three men—Rehan alias Sukka, 18, from Sonipat; Ritik Kurmi alias Roshan, 22, originally from Begusarai; and Phool Singh, 18, from Haryana—on a train heading toward Nepal. They were transferred to Mumbai Police and brought before a magistrate on Wednesday. The trio is accused of planning the attack and attempting to flee.
The shooting unfolded on Sunday evening in Juhu, when at least five rounds were fired at Shroff's car. The actor escaped unhurt, but his driver and a bystander sustained injuries. A motorcycle suspected as the getaway vehicle was abandoned in Andheri, and a case was registered under the Arms Act and attempt to murder provisions.
Mumbai Police said the suspects will remain in custody until Oct. 31 pending further court action. The investigation continues as authorities search for additional evidence.
The incident underscores the growing concern over celebrity safety in India.
