Six members of the Santosh Mishra family were arrested on October 1, 2023, after Mumbai police recovered the body of vegetable vendor Basantlal Sukhdev Kori, dumped in a sack off Devachi Wadi beach in Versova, Andheri West.
The body, wrapped in a plastic sack, was found at 8:45 a.m. by beachgoers. Investigators say the victim had been employed by the family’s patriarch, Santosh Vrindavan Mishra, a long‑time vendor in Malad West.
Police traced the accused to Uttar Pradesh, where Jugraj Ramnath Yadav, 59, fled with his wife and children. The other five—Mishra’s son Shivam, daughter Mira, daughter Anju and sister Vandana—were apprehended a few days later and transported back to Mumbai.
Mumbai Police said the suspects are being held in Central Jail pending a court appearance, as the investigation proceeds.
The case has drawn attention from the state government, with Deputy Commissioner of Police Anil Joshi noting that the probe will extend to the family's property in Malad.
