The Patiala House Court granted regular bail to Swatantra Bhardwaj on Tuesday, June 26, 2026, for the alleged assault on Sanjay Azad, a member of the Scheduled Caste, during a CJP protest at Jantar Mantar on June 23.
Judge SPS Laler, the Special Judge for the SC/ST Act, noted that Bhardwaj had complied with the stringent conditions imposed during the three‑week interim bail granted on September 15, 2025, and that no violations had been reported.
The bail order bars Bhardwaj from posting, publishing, or speaking about the case on any public platform, prohibits direct or indirect contact with Azad, his minor daughter, or any witnesses, and requires him to submit any breach report to the court by October 6.
Delhi Police had provided CCTV footage and call‑detail records as part of the investigation, but the court highlighted gaps in the evidence chain, instructing the investigating officer to secure additional footage from all government and private sources covering the protest site.
The judge will issue a detailed order later in the day that will specify further conditions and outline the procedures for monitoring Bhardwaj’s compliance, setting the stage for the next hearing on the case.
