At a press conference in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Tuesday, Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, blasted the BJP‑led central government’s "One Nation One Election" initiative, arguing it is a ploy to consolidate power into a single party.
The proposal, formalized in the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty‑Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024, seeks to synchronize Lok Sabha and state assembly elections, while the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, would extend the framework nationwide. Both bills were introduced on December 17, 2024, and are under review by a Joint Parliamentary Committee that has held expert consultations and a study visit to Lucknow in July.
Dipke also accused Chandrapur police of issuing notices to CJP activists, ordering them to avoid participating in a planned protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10. He claimed the police were probing travel expenses and warned that such interference could curb dissent.
He vowed to lead a large demonstration at Jantar Mantar unless Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigns, adding that the protest is part of a broader campaign against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision exercise and intra‑commission disputes. The protest could draw support from opposition parties and heighten scrutiny of the election body.
