TVK secured both Madurantakam and Dharapuram seats in the recent Tamil Nadu by‑polls, with Maragatham Kumaravel winning 74,048 votes against DMK's Paranthaman by 20,040, and Sathyabhama taking 66,841 against the DMK candidate by 9,471.
The results raise TVK's strength to 109 in the 234‑member Assembly, still nine short of the 118 seats needed for a simple majority.
The victories also represent a setback for the AIADMK, which had held both seats only months earlier and now faces criticism of its leadership after six of its MLAs resigned to join TVK.
Ahead of the next wave of by‑elections, TVK is eyeing five vacant seats, including Trichy East, that could bring the party to 114 seats if all are captured, still four seats shy of a majority.
Chief Minister Vijay described the wins as a repudiation of "vulgar speech" and affirmed Tamil Nadu's commitment to the people's force, while DMK leader MK Stalin called the outcome "interim" and urged the party to regroup for future contests.
