Delhi Customs arrested a Bangkok‑bound passenger on October 6 after seizing 12.85 kg of marijuana at Terminal 3. The operation followed a routine profiling check that flagged the metallic silver trolley bag.
When examined, officials found 13 polythene pouches packed with the suspected ganja, adding up to the 12.85 kg seized. The seized goods were valued at roughly ₹4.5 crore, customs officials said.
Under Section 43(B) of the NDPS Act, 1985, the passenger is now charged, while Section 43(A) authorises the confiscation of the contraband. The act empowers authorities to seize and prosecute offenders quickly.
This incident is part of Delhi’s aggressive anti‑drug campaign, which saw customs officials seize more than 20 kg of narcotics last year, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The current case is the largest single seizure at the airport in the past 18 months.
The passenger’s family, who had flown into Delhi earlier that day, says they are awaiting the court’s decision and hope for a swift resolution. They fear the legal process could drag on for months.
The case will be heard in the Delhi High Court in early November, with the prosecution expected to file a charge sheet within 30 days of the arrest. The outcome could influence future airport security protocols.
