On Tuesday, the Panama‑flagged MT On Peace was struck by a projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman, sending a wave of shock through maritime circles. The 19‑member crew, 17 of them Indian nationals, suffered injuries, with 12 crew members, including eleven Indians, taken to Khasab for medical care.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs swiftly issued a statement condemning the attack. "Targeting commercial shipping, seafarers and civilian infrastructure must end," the ministry said, urging Gulf authorities to implement stricter security measures.
Omani authorities assisted in evacuating the wounded and provided medical support, a gesture praised by the MEA. The incident follows a series of attacks on commercial vessels in the Gulf, heightening concerns over maritime safety and trade continuity.
India’s call for an immediate end to such attacks underscores the country’s broader push for regional stability and the protection of international shipping lanes.
