A day before the Supreme Court is set to hear petitions challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Election Commission issued a joint affidavit denying reports of discord among its three members.
The affidavit, approved unanimously by CEC Gyanesh Kumar and ECs Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, asserts that the three SIR orders—issued in June 2025, October 2025 and May 2026—were reached through a single, collective decision.
Media reports last month suggested a split over the methodology of the SIR exercise, citing unnamed sources claiming that the commissioners had diverging views on the inclusion of certain voter categories.
In a statement released to the press, CEC Kumar said, "The Commission’s stance is clear and unanimous; any notion of internal disagreement is baseless and harmful to the integrity of the electoral process."
The Supreme Court, which will hear the petitions next month, is expected to scrutinize the SIR orders and determine whether procedural lapses warrant remedial action, a decision that could reshape how electoral rolls are maintained in the coming years.
