In a filing in April 2024, Brian Larson, a former JPMorgan Chase senior associate, alleged his manager Peter Bergman repeatedly made homophobic remarks that pushed him into depression and forced his resignation.
Larson had been leading the bank’s Pride employee group in 2022, a role that triggered Bergman’s hostile comments about separating his "gay job" from his day job.
JPMorgan’s spokesperson said the company took the allegations seriously but found no evidence to substantiate them, citing performance gaps identified by multiple managers and coaching provided to Larson.
The complaint also cites an email from former global head of DEI Brian Lamb, which encouraged Bergman to incorporate Larson’s Pride activity into his performance review, but Bergman allegedly dismissed it.
The lawsuit will be heard in federal court in May 2024, with both parties expected to submit evidence and arguments.
