Suvendu Adhikari slammed Mamata Banerjee’s 2021 leg‑injury claim at a rally in Birulia bazaar, Nandigram II, on Friday, insisting the incident was staged to boost her political image.
Banerjee, then Chief Minister, announced on March 10, 2021, that she had suffered a severe left‑leg fracture and accompanying injuries while campaigning in Reyapara, Birulia. She was rushed to SSKM Hospital and diagnosed with broken bones and ligament damage, a fact she highlighted in her campaign speeches.
Adhikari said he has the X‑ray report that was kept by the hospital, which shows no fracture. He threatened to release the evidence if anyone challenges his claim, adding that the hospital’s records are in his possession and that Banerjee’s doctors had recorded 'no fracture' in the official file.
The West Bengal government will soon launch a fresh inquiry into the alleged false injury claim, according to Adhikari. Political observers note that the inquiry could reshape the upcoming Nandigram by‑polls, adding pressure on Banerjee’s campaign team to clarify the incident before the election deadline.
