Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the BJP MP for South Delhi, walked into the Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Saturday to hand over a written apology that he had sent to the secretariat on September 5. He had previously visited the home of Sajjan Kumar, the former Congress MP convicted in the 1984 anti‑Sikh riots, to attend a condolence gathering following Kumar’s death.
The Akal Takht Jathedar, Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj, met the MP at the secretariat and accepted the letter, praising Bidhuri for acknowledging his mistake. "It is good that he realized his error and has issued an apology," Gargajj said, adding that the gesture sets a precedent for other lawmakers.
Several other political figures, particularly those aligned with the Congress, have also been seen visiting Kumar’s residence. Gargajj urged them to follow Bidhuri’s example and seek forgiveness from the Sikh community, stressing the need for reconciliation.
Shio‑mari Akali Dal Delhi unit president S. Paramjit Singh Sarna was present at the secretariat, observing the proceedings. The event drew attention from Sikh leaders across Delhi, who view the apology as a step toward healing old wounds.
The broader outcome now hinges on whether other Congress leaders heed the Jathedar’s call and publicly address the community, a move that could reshape intra‑party dynamics and community relations in the coming weeks.
