Nishad Kumar bursts to gold in the men's T47 long jump, leaping 7.11m to outpace rivals in the final at the Asian Para Games.
After a solid 6.95m start, he kept tightening the gap with a 7.09m, then pushed to 7.11m in his third attempt – a margin that left opponents scrambling. A foul on the fourth try didn’t deter him, and he matched the 7.11m in the fifth round before sealing the lead with a 7.07m finish in the last attempt.
Uzbekistan's Omadbek Khasanov took silver with a season-best 6.99m, but couldn’t catch Nishad's commanding distance.
The win marks Nishad's second Paralympic silver in high jump and his first gold in long jump, underscoring his versatility. The victory also gives India a second gold on Monday, following Mona Agarwal's record‑breaking 250.0 points in air rifle.
With the Asian Para Games still on, Nishad will aim for a podium finish in the next event, while India eyes a stronger medal push.
