Tata Motors closed the first nine months of 2026 with 108,548 electric vehicles delivered, pushing its EV share to 40% of all passenger vehicle sales in India—an unprecedented haul for a single manufacturer.
And that number isn’t just a statistic; it means that for every five cars a Tata customer buys, one is a zero‑emission model. Mahindra & Mahindra, the second‑largest player, sold 58,220 units, a 50,328‑unit gap that still feels vast in a market where every showroom is competing for the same buyer.
Tata’s six‑model lineup—Nexon, Tiago, Punch, Harrier, Curvv, and the new Sierra—spans the price spectrum from the budget‑friendly Tiago to the premium‑segment Curvv. The Nexon EV, in particular, remains the biggest volume driver, while the updated Tiago and Punch have been magnets for first‑time EV buyers, especially after fuel price hikes shifted consumer budgets.
August was a headline‑making month: 16,549 EVs were shipped, a 94% jump from the same period last year. That surge is a clear sign that the festive season is turning the tide in favour of electric models.
Quarter‑on‑quarter growth tells the full story. Q3 saw a 90% YoY increase, with 47,150 units delivered—accounting for 43% of all Tata sales that quarter. The momentum is not just in numbers; it’s in the speed at which buyers are switching from ICE to EV.
Looking ahead, Tata could add another 50,000–55,000 units between October and December. If that happens, the brand would finish 2026 with roughly 160,000 EVs, nudging it toward a 700,000‑unit annual total and cementing its dominance in the evolving Indian EV landscape.
