On Thursday, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia released a video showing Rahul Gandhi pushing a woman police officer at a sit‑in on Delhi’s Ashoka Road.
The footage, captured during a protest by the INDIA bloc over alleged vote‑rigging and to demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, shows Gandhi leaning forward and pushing an officer who had tried to remove a protester.
Bhatia slammed Gandhi for 'misbehaving' with women officers, noting the officer was a woman and that the conduct violated her dignity. He added that Rahul’s actions reflected a broader disrespect toward women in public service.
He demanded an immediate inquiry and hinted at possible legal action, questioning why Gandhi did not allow women Congress leaders to address the officer instead. Bhatia said the protest had already seen a 25‑year‑old student from Jaipur tripped by the scuffle.
Congress issued a statement denying the allegations, calling them baseless political mud‑slinging and reaffirming Gandhi’s commitment to democratic principles. The party also urged the government to investigate the incident impartially.
The BJP has filed a formal complaint with the Delhi Police, and a hearing is scheduled for early November. The outcome could set a precedent for handling police‑protest confrontations in the capital.
