Rahul Gandhi's petition, filed by lawyer S Prasanna just before the 4:30‑pm deadline, names the Congress leader and ten other INDIA bloc figures, demanding intervention over the controversial SIR exercise.
The petition accuses the Election Commission of removing 30 lakh names without consulting the two other Commissioners, a move that critics say undermines electoral integrity.
Earlier, the Cockroach Janta Party’s march to the Supreme Court was blocked by Delhi Police, detaining over 3,000 supporters and reflecting the heightened political pressure surrounding the case.
Chief Justice Surya Kant, who directed the registry to process the petition, warned that a filing before 4:30 pm would trigger a hearing the following day.
The Supreme Court will convene on Tuesday, with a bench chaired by Surya Kant, to examine whether the Election Commission’s actions violate constitutional provisions and to decide on the petition’s merits.
