Eight BJP nominees and two Samajwadi Party candidates from Uttar Pradesh were declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha on Friday, a move that left the composition of the Upper House unchanged.
Returning Officer Ajit Verma, also the Special Secretary of the UP Vidhan Sabha, confirmed the result to PTI, noting that all ten candidates had been confirmed without contest.
While the BJP’s eight nominees—Radhakant Ojha, Prabhakar Singh, and others—have already collected their election certificates, the Samajwadi Party’s Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani received his on behalf of party leader Ram Gopal Yadav.
The unopposed outcome comes as the terms of the ten new members conclude on November 25, necessitating the biennial elections for Uttar Pradesh’s Rajya Sabha seats.
The next election will determine whether the current balance, dominated by BJP appointees, will shift or remain intact, with analysts eyeing potential challenges from opposition parties.
