Princess Diana first crossed paths with Hasnat Khan when the surgeon introduced himself in the waiting room of London’s Royal Brompton Hospital on September 1 1995.
Over the next two years, the pair slipped into private moments at Kensington Palace and Khan’s Chelsea flat, often arranging clandestine meetings to dodge paparazzi glare.
During a 1996 trip to Pakistan, Diana confided in friend Jemima Khan about marrying a Pakistani man, probing whether a Christian‑Muslim union could work – a question later echoed in the 2008 inquest.
Threats slipped into Khan’s mailbox, and the relentless press made the future seem impossible; after returning from a holiday in southern France in summer 1997, Diana announced the relationship was over, freeing the way for her subsequent liaison with Dodi Al Fayed.
Since Diana’s death, Khan has largely stayed out of the spotlight, refusing to collaborate with the 2013 film "Diana" and only offering limited testimony to investigators.
