The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) halted entry and exit at 45 metro stations in the capital from 9 pm on 9 October 2026 until 6 pm on 10 October 2026, following a protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The closure came after the DMRC initially suspended 57 stations, but revised the list after consultations with Delhi Police. Stations including Janpath, Mandi House, and Kashmere Gate were among those impacted, while the interchange facility remained available at all except New Delhi metro station. Namo Bharat stations at Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar were also shut for the same period.
The CJP is staging its second protest at Jantar Mantar on 10 October, accusing the CEC of manipulating Form 6 and irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision. Joint Commissioner of Police Nupur Prasad said the protest permit was filed only three days before the event, violating the 10‑day notice requirement. The party’s rally aims to force Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
Delhi Police has deployed 120 Central Armed Police Force units and set up CCTV across strategic zones to monitor the protest. The New Delhi district has been divided into 20 zones, each overseen by senior police officers, to preempt any potential clashes.
Commuters are advised to use alternate routes or the remaining open stations, as Namo Bharat trains between Anand Vihar and Modipuram will continue to run on schedule. The DMRC and NCRTC have issued a joint statement urging passengers to plan their journeys accordingly.
The protest will be closely watched by security agencies, with a review scheduled after 10 pm on 10 October. Updates on the situation and any further restrictions will be communicated by the DMRC and Delhi Police as the day progresses.
