The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has announced a nationwide 3‑day strike from September 28 to 30, targeting banking operations during the month‑end period.
Private lenders such as HDFC, ICICI, Axis, and Kotak will keep automated payroll systems online, but public sector banks—including SBI, Punjab National Bank, and state‑run banks—will suspend branch services, potentially delaying salary credits until the strike ends.
UFBU also demands a shift to a five‑day banking week, alongside pension reforms and better working conditions for bank staff, as part of its broader campaign for financial sector labor rights.
With the strike ending on September 30, payroll is expected to resume on October 1, but workers in public sector banks remain uncertain about exact credit dates.
