Miami CBP officials cut a visiting couple’s authorized stay from six months to two months in November 2026 after questioning the purpose of their trip.
The parents had booked return tickets for February 2027 and were expecting to stay through the end of the year, but officers cited the father’s employment in India as a factor limiting their admission period.
Senthurjothi explained that CBP considers the traveller’s stated purpose, travel history, and circumstances at the time of admission; in this case, the presence of a permanent job in India likely prompted the two‑month limit.
The shortened stay means the family will miss the birth of their grandchild, and they must leave the U.S. before the I‑94 expiry or risk overstaying, both of which could jeopardise future travel.
They may consider filing for an extension or a new visa, but the attorney advised that the safest route is to depart on time to avoid complications.
