Saudi Arabia launched 26 air strikes on Houthi‑controlled areas in Yemen on Friday, according to the Islamist movement.
The cumulative figure of Saudi attacks now reaches 300 this week, a sharp increase from the 120 recorded in the first half of the month.
The Houthi advance, which began in July, has seized most populated zones and the entire Red Sea coast, giving the group control over the Bab al‑Mandab strait.
In a move to curb Saudi shipping, the Houthis declared a maritime blockade of Saudi vessels and claim the strait remains open for all but Saudi ships. Kpler data shows only five loaded Saudi vessels passed the strait in the last week.
UN figures reveal that the renewed fighting has displaced more than 112,000 Yemenis, with about 3,000 fleeing to Djibouti by sea. The same agency warns that 17 million Yemenis face hunger, and a further million are at risk of extreme famine.
The UN Security Council is scheduled to convene next week to discuss the escalation, as the international community urges an immediate ceasefire.
