The family of Jayabalakrishnan, who was killed when a judge’s 17‑year‑old son collided with his scooter in Cheranalloor, Kerala, announced that it will file a writ petition in the Kerala High Court demanding the judge’s removal and the arrest of both father and son.
Police had already suspended four officers in the case, a move the family said satisfied them, but they insist that the judicial officer’s fitness must be scrutinised. The police briefed the High Court on the crash details, noting that the investigation is still ongoing.
In addition to the High Court petition, the family plans to appeal to the district court and request the cancellation of the teenager’s bail. Bhadradeepthi, the victim’s daughter, told reporters that “we want the person who killed our father to be caught” and that “both the father and son must be arrested.”
The protest that had drawn thousands of supporters over almost three days has been suspended for now, as the family focuses on legal recourse. They claim the police action, including officer suspensions, was a step toward justice but is insufficient without judicial intervention.
The High Court is expected to hear the petition in the coming weeks, after which the case may be directed to the district court for further action. The outcome will determine whether the judge remains in office and whether the son faces arrest.
