Padgha police registered a first‑information report against former BJP legislator Narendra Pawar and former constable Shailesh Patil on Thursday after a 22‑year‑old woman filed a complaint that they gang‑raped her at a farmhouse in Bapgaon, Bhiwandi, on 13 September.
The complainant told officers she had been lured by Pawar’s offer to mediate marital issues, then taken to the farmhouse, forced to drink alcohol, and sexually assaulted while held at gunpoint.
She posted video footage and WhatsApp chats to Congress corporator Kanchan Kulkarni on 16 September, prompting the corporator to forward the material to Padgha officers.
Senior inspector Pankaj Giri, with the assistance of Maharashtra Director General of Police Sadanand Date, verified the evidence and cited the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for charges of gang‑rape, brandishing a firearm and assault.
Pawar, who heads the BJP’s Bhatke Vimukta Aghadi front, denied all accusations as a political conspiracy and resigned from all party posts in an attempt to protect the BJP’s image.
Police have announced they will continue the search and are preparing to file additional charges; the case will be forwarded to the Special Court in Bhiwandi.
