Residents of Swaroop Nagar reported stray dogs devouring a body in a field on the morning of September 13. Police arrived to find a severely decomposed corpse with one hand severed, the remains so mutilated that even the victim’s gender could not be determined. The victim’s face was completely mangled, and multiple stab wounds were visible. A post‑mortem confirmed rape, the investigators said.
The body turned out to belong to a 16‑year‑old girl who had not been reported missing. Her family explained she often left home and returned after a few days. Police learned she had travelled with four suspects, including three minors, in a tempo on the day of the attack.
Using data from over 50 CCTV cameras, officers pinpointed a tempo moving near the scene around the time of the crime. The night‑long search on September 15‑16 traced the vehicle’s route and identified its driver. The four accused—Shivam alias Sudama alias Chuchu of Khadda Colony and three juveniles aged 16‑17—were apprehended and are now in custody.
Investigators recovered two knives, clothes believed to belong to the suspects, and the tempo used in the assault. A case was registered under sections of the BNS and the POCSO Act, and the prosecution is preparing the chargesheet.
The family, who had no prior missing‑person report, expressed shock at the brutal fate of their daughter. The incident underscores the urgent need for community vigilance and swift law‑enforcement action in Delhi’s densely populated suburbs.
